Raven: The Untold Story of Rev. Jim Jones and His People is a very detailed and informative book on the life and death of the infamous Rev. Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple.
This book, despite its 688 page length, really captivates the reader with its enthralling detail on Jim Jones's lonely and never satisfied life. Raven provides the reader with all the information they could ever wish to know about him and his cult.
One interesting fact I found about Jim Jones in this book, was his strong yearning for friendship and command over people. He even went so far as shooting his dad's .22 caliber at his friend because he didn't want him to leave. Controlling, I know!
This is one of the very few books where I can honestly say that I left with everything I ever wanted to know, AND more! It is quite evident that Tim Reiterman went through copious amounts of research and interviews to come out with the great volume. Any information you need on Jim Jones & The Peoples Temple can be found in this book alone.
One thing that could discourage the possible reader is definitely the length of Raven. It took me a total of a month of vigorous, close to non stop reading to finish this 688 page mammoth. If you don't have the time, then I encourage you to stay away from this one, as the peculiar habits of Jim Jones and his people will soon distract you and turn into a, "No stopping until I finish", read-a-thon!
Overall the choice is up to you, but from a the word of a history buff I would definitely recommend this informative and interestingly twisted book that follows in detail the lives of Jim and his church, leading up to the death of 909 members in the jungle of Guyana.
